Give me a Hand: A tale of mystery
It was a sweltering, hot, midsummer's night (no not Shakespeare's mid summers night), it was the one in the middle of summer in South Africa.
I hovered around in the dark anxiously waiting for my victim to arrive, as I was going to pounce upon her when she least expected it.
Hours had passed since night had fallen and still she had not come into her bedroom. What was keeping her, I thought. I am already feeling so parched, but I dare not leave my hiding place as she might see me.
There was a flash of light and I became slightly blinded by it as my eyes had become accustomed to the darkness behind the curtain.
I was just relieved that she had finally arrived and she was going to get into bed where I was going to attack her. I would still have to wait until she was asleep before I could make my move though. I did not want her to have the upper hand if she was to detect my presence.
Another hour had passed by the time I was able to make my move.
I tried to be quiet as I made my way out from behind the purple curtains, which was very difficult.
Her voluptuous, naked body was sprawled out on the bed and I was so ready to make my move on her, that I got so excited and lost my concentration on being quiet, and the next thing I knew, she was awake again. She had switched on the light, but I had managed to hide myself quickly.
She must have been baffled by the noise, thinking that she had heard something, but was seeing nothing.
A little while later, she switched off the light again, pulled the sheet half way over her naked body and went back to sleep.
I slowly, quietly, made my appearance again and swooped down on her as fast as I could, when slap, I found myself in a pool of blood and my limbs ripped apart.
I had underestimated her strength and awareness of what was going on around her, she had been waiting for me to make her move. She was clearly no fool and had played me like a fiddle.
That was the night I died a gruesome death.
Never underestimate the power of the hand when you are a mosquito.
