Purposefully Driven
It has been a while since I last put my fingers to the keyboard other than doing my job, a job I get paid for.
Doing what I do best on a personal level is what I refer to as my purpose in this life and that is the business of living and making use of the various talents I have of which I have plenty.
I recently got asked by a very special person who I have great admiration for, what it is like to know your purpose and my answer was expressed with much difficulty that it brought me to tears. I just blamed the tears on the sparkling wine we were drinking over some candlelit dinner with Tchaikovsky in the background.
When you know your purpose for living then it can be quite daunting at times but also very rewarding having to accept that no matter what you really want for yourself is not necessarily what you are going to get. The reality is that I have to accept certain outcomes whether it is good or bad. And not that it is necessarily bad, but it is not an easy task to accept a certain outcome when all you wished for is that it was what you wanted.
My purpose as I might have mentioned a few blogs back is to come into your life for however long it is meant to be, and to step aside when you have discovered your purpose. I am not some guru having all the answers, but have discovered that by listening to others and sharing my experiences I am able to direct you on the path you are seeking. I am probably doing the job of a psychologist which I wanted to be until my mother (yes here I go again) said I need a psychologist myself. The words that our parents or we ourselves utter that can kill one's confidence.
When we speak we should use our words with caution, something I try to do, but as most of you know, stil bly is nie my beste talent nie (Translation: being quiet is not my best talent). This reminds me that I would like to write something in Afrikaans one day. Ek dink ek sal somer nou begin. Nee speel maar net, ek sal dit los vir nog 'n dag.
Knowing your purpose takes a lot of deep introspection. You need to recognise the patterns of your life. What and who you attract into your space. Many of us have asked ourselves the questions "Why do certain things happen to us? or Why do certain people come into our lives?" it is called the law of attraction and it is based on the messages we send out into the world. If you are going to be constantly negative about every opportunity that comes your way then you cannot expect to recognise an opportunity when it stares you in the face. My motto on this one is that "If you do not open the door to opportunity then it will just go knocking on someone else's door".
On discovering my purpose in life I have found that I cannot be all things to everyone but what I can be is to be true to myself. I cannot pretend to like you if I really don't and I can't pretend not to notice the inequalities that go on around me and do nothing about it.
When I choose to be quiet or private about something it does not mean that something is wrong it just might mean that with all the humdrum of what goes on in my life that sometimes silence is a necessity and I would appreciate it if that choice is respected. Sometimes when the world knows too much about your goings on you no longer have control over the situation and you do not have a first hand perspective on things as you are constantly viewing a situation through the eyes of someone else.

One's purpose is a journey of discovering who and why you are on this planet. Some of us are born knowing and some of us spend our whole lives searching only to find that all that time we were living our purpose.
Set yourself a task to find if you know, searching or living your purpose by reflecting on your life by writing down randomly not in a straight line on a blank page:
Your experiences.
The kinds of people you have attracted.
What made you most happy.
What made you the saddest.
Where you want to be.
What do you want for yourself.
(add anything else you feel is important)
Once you have all your thoughts on the paper, start linking them with/to each other that seem to be connected to each other. The chances are that you will discover the pattern of your life.
Once you have that pattern. Ask yourself if you like it? Can it be changed? Can it be improved?
I hope the pattern you create is filled with lots of colour, love, happiness and most of all your purpose.
